Well I’ve made it another week. This week we are on the letter F. This week I had to “fudge” just a bit. If you drop the ‘A’ as is the formal way of filing things you come up with “A Fish Out of Water”. I’m continue to be excited about my participation in the ABC Blogging Challenge and the theme of children’s book. I hope you have been enjoying it as well.

F is for Fish
In this story a young boy is gifted with a goldfish. He is given the instructions on how to care for his fish complete the warning to only feed it a pinch. Of course like children everywhere he over feeds his pet. What follows is the adventure of an ever-growing fish and the difficulty of finding a safe place to keep his fish. Of course the story has a happy ending when the fish is restored to its rightful size and returned to his fish bowl.
This is a great story to share with your children in lots of different circumstances. You can use it to reinforce the importance of obedience. It can lead to a discussion that sometimes we aren’t the only one who will might suffer when we make poor choices.
You can talk about cause and effect and possibly even include nutrition as well. If you eat too much or eat the wrong things it can have a negative effect on your body.
Maybe you want to tackle the theme of problem solving. Just like the boy has to keep coming up with different places to house his fish how would your child tackle a difficult problem.
Finally, the best and most obvious way to use this book is to introduce the idea of pet care before you child gets a pet of his/her own. Here is one goldfish caring site I found. A Guide to Goldfish Care.
This story is so much fun to read and share with your child. If you have never read “A Fish Out of Water” please take time to check it out today.
