P is for Puns
I think the idea of puns helps me to remember to keep my sense of humor. Some days are just hard and it seems like Murphy’s Law is alive and working in my house. Other times there seems to be so many things that have to get done that the stress builds up. If I don’t remember to laugh or to find humor in my day all that stress could cause a blow up that could derail our day completely.
Puns the Definition
Pun – a humorous way of using a word or phrase so that more than one meaning is suggested
The boys were have always loved a good word play. Sometimes they happened completely by accident because someone misunderstood what the other person said and the reply would induce laughter by everyone in the room. Sometimes they can be in the form of an overused but still funny joke such as, “Two men walk into a bar, the third one ducks.”
And if you look at the alphabet blog button you will see that I the picture I chose this week is a room with some ice on it because what could be a bigger pun than ice on a roof in Florida.
Why it’s Essential
Parenting is always hard work and being a homeschool parent adds another layer to the relationship. There are times were you have to be tough. Other times things that have nothing to do with your children or their schooling crowd into your life. I have found it’s really essential when it seems we are covering the same ground. How many times have you told your children to clean up their rooms and be told it’s clean? When that happens sometimes I have to use humor to ask clean for you or clean for your dad. That is often all it takes to send them back to work without a lot of fuss or upset.
So as you move through your days don’t forget to your sense of humor and just for fun throw out a pun or two.
If you have a favorite pun don’t forget to share it in the comments I’m always looking for new word plays.
