Android, Apple, and Kindle – Oh My!
When it comes to homeschooling and tablets there are lots of options out there and between saving up and winning contests my family now as access to all the platforms. When it comes to applications different devices offer either different options or applications. Some things work better on different devices as well. So if you are in the market decide what your needs are and then start shopping.
Step One Stay on Track
One of the first ways to make use of a tablet in your homeschool is for assignments. Whether you use a to do list, calendar, or an online program there are lots of ways to your family can know what is next using a tablet. We use Homeschool Managers. This is an online program and can be accessed using the browser on your device. For example I can use Silk on the Kindle or Safari on the iPad mini and both allowed me full access to the program as a parent as well has giving my children the ability to log in and check off their assignments.
Portable For Schooling on the Go
Tablets are the ultimate in easy travel. Even the larger tablets are still fairly lightweight and easy to use which make them the perfect companion for studying on the go, traveling to the library, or while waiting somewhere.
Quick Answers at Your Finger Tips
Sometimes you need a quick spelling, want to know the meaning of a word, or wonder what something looks like. With a tablet on hand you can quickly look up your answers without getting to side tracked during the school hours.
Cloud Can Be Your Friend
Now all tablets either have an Office App or something that is compatible so along with the cloud you can work on your reports or other projects on the go and also on your main computer. It gives you the ability to make changes and corrections on the go. You can also your tablet in presentations to other homeschoolers or family members.
This is not about debating the need for social media. Just acknowledging that it exists and is the way that may groups stay in touch with either other, make announcements, and allow sign up for events. Tablets make a quick and easy way to stay on top of what is going on.
Calendars, Alarms, and Staying in Sync
As my children have gotten older they are involved in different activities at different times and add in other appoints and our life can get hectic. I love using a calendar app that allows me to keep track of all things homeschool and life. Currently, we all have our own google calendar and I have all of them visible on my devices as well as having permission to add things to everyone’s calendar. Using alarms can help keep things on track when you need to get something done in a certain time frame.
