MacPhail Center for Music provides both on site and live online music lessons for a variety of ages and a wide range of instruments. At their centers they offer concerts as well as other events and activities.
Hannah reviewed the MacPhail Online lesson with the flute. The online lessons are scheduled to meet your needs and are conducted using Skype and a webcam. Information is available on the website to determine if your computer system will meet the requirements. Also, a live test is conducted before beginning your lessons.
Hannah was excited about taking some type of music lesson so she took the initiative to make arrangements to borrow a flute from a church member. Before we began our lessons we received a questionnaire from MacPhail. They ask for information regarding the level of experience the student already had, if they could read music, what our goals were for the class, and questions to determine which teacher would best fit with the student’s personality. They also asked questions to determine what time of day would work best when scheduling the classes. We had 4 online lessons that lasted 30 minutes at a time. Our 4 lessons were scheduled over a 6-week period.
I love how they made such an effort to make sure our needs were met. When we were having trouble scheduling with the teacher they felt would be the best fit they went the extra mile to get the classes schedule. Hannah’s teacher, Vanamali, was very energetic and did a good job of putting Hannah at easy with the first lesson. Hannah loved spitting rice to learn about the proper mouth movement for playing the flute.
We had stated that our goal was for Hannah to be introduced to the instrument and to have a fun with it. Our goal was met perfectly. Hannah really enjoyed her lessons and practiced in between the lessons.
The advantage of online lessons is the availability of immediate feedback and the ability to correct mistakes right away. The student also gets the encouragement to work hard and they have a ready audience to hear them play.
