We had a great day of service today. Our family along with about another 140 people worked at the Street Audubon Center clearing the land of air potatoes which are an invasive exotic. It grows rapidly and takes over the land pushing out native plants. They worked for several hours and cleared out quite a bit. It was neat to see kids as young as 5 and adults of retirement age working together. Thanks to the Audubon group that hosted us and feed us a great breakfast and lunch.
Today’s journal question: What’s your favorite summertime activity?
A: I loved to be indoors enjoying activities that probably appeal to my friends in colder climates during the winter. I love to scrapbook, read, and even cross-stitch occasionally. I’ve been a big fan of being hot and since I’ve gotten older and started treatment for hypertension I seem to have an even harder time coping with the extreme humid mixed with high temperatures. It just makes it very hard for me to function well in outdoor activities. Also, I have never been a sun bather and when I do have to do something outdoors I try to make sure I avoid peak burning times and cover up. I love it just before the temperatures start to climb or just as they cool off at the end of summer. When the temperature is right I love to sit outside and enjoy the sounds around me. But when the temperature is in the 90’s F with feels like temperatures over 100 degrees F you will find that my favorite activity is anything that allows me to stay in the air conditioning.
